Now that we know WHY it is important to create a vision for our family, it is time to create one! But where do you start? How do you make sure the vision is actually in line with what the Lord has planned for your family?
This week’s video
How to create a family vision
- Pray and ask the Lord!
The most important this you can and should do, is ask the Lord what HE wants your family to focus on. Yes, you can just write things down you would like to do or have, but it is more important to do what He has for you. And He knows the plans He has for you (Jeremiah 29) so why not ask the One who knows already!?
So make sure you take the time to focus on what the Lord wants for your family. We love to do this individually first and then get together and discus. It is so fun to see that we often have the same goals written down! - Write down your family values and needs
Once you have a clear vision from the Lord, it is time to write down what the family needs. Make sure you take all the family members into consideration! Don’t forget to look at what the home needs as well. We can plan our days but forget to clean the home. - Turn it into goals you can focus on now.
And then the fun part begins. It’s time to write down actionable steps that you can do NOW, in order to get closer to the ultimate goal and vision. So maybe your vision involves ‘being a close family that spends a lot of time outdoors on the family farm’. Even if you don’t live on a farm yet, you can make decisions now that will help you get closer to the goals. So maybe you start a vegetable garden in the backyard, you sign the children up for a gardening class or you buy a book to learn all that can be learned about dairy cows.
If you want to learn more about setting goals, I have this blogpost that will help you set goals that you can actually achieve!
Along with creating a family vision. It is very powerful to create a statement as a family and decide what you want your family to be like and to focus on. We say this family statement almost every morning. It helps us to stay focused on how we should behave and talk to each other in our home.
