Easter is such a beautiful, fun and extremely important holiday to celebrate. I often see people going all crazy for Christmas, but forgetting about Easter. But the reason we celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus, is simply because Easter happened.

Easter is the a very important thing to celebrate and talk about with your kids. So if you want to focus more on Easter this year, you are in the right place! Today we will talk about creating a fun Easter craft with the kids, and it only takes a few supplies. But this craft is a great conversation starter to explain Easter to your kids.

Supplies needed

Piece of paper with washi tape cross on it and paint and brushes next to the paper.

Piece of paper
Paint, pencils or crayons.
Paint brush, water, etc.
Washi tape

I love doing this with paint, but if you prefer to use crayons or pencils, you totally can. When the kids were younger we loved to use crayons, but now that they are older they make the most beautiful creations with paint.

Note: You can even use stickers, but just be aware that as soon as you take the washi tape off, you will also peel of some of the stickers, so it won’t be as ‘clean cut’ as paint or crayons.

How to create this Easter craft

So now comes the fun (and simple part!)

  1. You start by making a big cross on the paper with washi tape. (The reason we use washi tape, is because it is much easier to take off afterwards.) Make sure it is big and thick enough, or else you won’t see it very well.
  2. Get all the supplies out that you want to use. Paint, water, brushes etc.
  3. Let the child use his or her creativity and paint/color all over the paper. They can just go over the washi tape as well, so don’t worry!
  4. Take off the washi tape. When you used paint, I suggest doing this immediately. Once the paint is dry it can become a little harder to take off and you might peel off more than you’d like aka some of the paint.
  5. Let it dry completely and display it.
  6. Optional: Use the craft as a conversation starter to talk about Easter, the cross and the empty grave!

I told you it was easy! It’s such a fun way to let them use their creativity, without having to prepare a ton. And I am sure your kids will love it just as much as ours! And like I said, it is a great way to start the conversations about Easter.
