5 Things to leave behind in 2024

With a new year approaching, there are always so many things we can look forward to. And with all the New Year’s goals it can be very tempting to just look forward. But another great thing to do, is to look at some things you want to leave behind or let go of. So let me share some things I am leaving behind in 2024, and you probably should do too.
Watch this week’s video
Fear of men
One of the biggest and maybe even the hardest ones to leave behind is fear of men. What I mean by that, is our fear of what other people might think of us. It does not really matter what other people think of you, it matters what God thinks of you.
So next time you feel lead to share something on your Social media, stop thinking about what Aunt Susie might think, and just post it! Or maybe you want to wear the dress you and your husband both love, but you keep thinking about what your mom said last time you wore it.
So instead of thinking about what others might think, focus on what the Lord asks of you. Our fear of the Lord needs to be bigger than our fear of men!
Comparison for the wrong reasons
Comparison doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. Sometimes we can compare ourselves or our lives to other people’s lives and see areas where we might improve. This can then motivate us to take action.
But often we compare for the wrong reasons. We want to feel better about ourselves (see, my house is a lot cleaner than Susan’s!) or we want to feel validated in how we are feeling (I will never be able to do xyz, I don’t have what she has).
Comparing our lives to people we see online or even to our friends, is often for one of those two reasons. And we need to stop it. We need to stay in our own lane and focus on what the Lord asks of us, not focus on what He asks of others.
Laziness
Laziness is something I have talked about quite a bit on my channel. You can see one of my most popular videos here. But laziness is something the Lord really hates (I mean, look at the 20+ Bible verses against laziness..)
So how do we know if we are lazy? The truth is, you probably already know. Because laziness is an attitude of not wanting to do a certain thing because you have better, other or more fun things to do.
So one of the goals for your year could (and dare I say, should) be; no more laziness in the home and family life. It’s time to start doing the things that need to get done with a happy heart. No more excuses or ‘I will do it later’. Time to get to work and do the thing.
One thing I do want to add here, laziness is not the same as rest. Rest is something we all need and is vital to life. I am talking about laziness. So do not confuse the two. You most likely know when you need rest or when you are just acting lazy.
Ungratefulness
Ungratefulness is also one of those things we should leave behind in 2024. It’s so important to show our children what it looks like to be grateful and to set the right example. I want to always serve from a place of gratitude.
It’s so important to be thankful for all the things you have, even if there are so many things we would still want to have or even really need to have. Yes you might still be in need, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be thankful for what you DO have. You are still extremely blessed.
Worry
Last but certainly not least, is worry. I often think about the Bible verses in Matthew 6:25-34 where it talks about the birds and the flowers in the field. How God takes care of them without them even doing one single thing. If God takes care of them, how much more would He take care of us?!
So even though there may be needs, it’s not an excuse to worry about it. God know we need all those things. It actually says in verse 33 that we need to ‘But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’ So what we need to do, is seek the Lord. And then He will take care of all the things we need. Which things? Well, those mentioned in the verses above; what we eat, drink or wear.
New year’s goals
Now with all that being said, we can talk about all the things to leave behind in 2024, but we can also look forward to what we can actually add into our lives. And that is where the new year goals come in. If you want to learn more about goals and routines, you might like these posts:
