There have been countless times where I hear women talk, and all I can think is; you have your priorities mixed up. If you are so busy doing things, but can’t take care of your own home, something is not right. So today I wanted to dive into them and talk about ways we can focus more on the home and less on all the extra fluff that we so easily get sucked into!

Watch this week’s video

Let’s start at the beginning

I have been sharing about homemaking and motherhood for many years on both my Instagram and my YouTube channel and there is one thing I often hear women say. I just can’t keep up with my laundry, cleaning, homemaking, etc. And when I start to ask a few questions, these things come up almost all the time:

  • Women do not see their role as a homemaker or mother as valuable enough. So instead of making the home their number one goal, they start to add in other things to make up for that.
  • Focus on so many things outside the home. So in line with the first one, is adding in more things outside the home. So many women will start to do things that are good, but take away time from the thing that is most important for them; taking care of the home and their family. So instead of having their home in order, they will start to clean the bathrooms in church, add in more Bible study groups or find another job. And again, there is not something wrong with it. It just takes away time from your first responsibility and ministry.

How to change this

  • Spend time with the Lord. Always the most important thing to do. Spend time with him and let him show you where your focus should be and what you can add into your life (or what to let go off). We are all in different seasons of our lives, so while some women need to work in order to feed their family, some women might have to be home and learn how to live on one income and bring back the order in the house. So ask the Lord what you should do and what you can focus on. And make sure you read His Word, because a lot of the things we want to know are already written down.
  • Focus on creating a family vision. I made a video and post on this before, which you can find here. But having a family vision is going to help you so much! It’s important to know, as a family, what your goals and priorities are. So make a family vision with your spouse and focus on the right things. Having a vision will make it so much easier to say no to things (which we need to do more often!)
  • Check your calendar often! Every week, make sure you look at your calendar and start with adding in the things that are important. So make sure you have time to clean the home, cook healthy meals, etc. Fill up your calendar with the important things first. When you are done, you might notice you have some time left to volunteer at church. So you can totally do that! But don’t fill it up with tons of out of the home activities and then realizing you have no time to clean your own home, do laundry or just sit down and read a book with the kids.
  • Create routines for your home. Once you have a good foundation and know what to do, it’s time to create routines. Having good solid routines make it so much easier to stay on top of things! Having a routine ensures you that everything gets done. And the more you do the routine the easier it becomes. This will create more time in your day in which you might do something you don’t have time for right now!

Remember!

There are a lot of things we can do, but know what is a priority and what is not. So here’s a list of what you priorities should look like:

  1. God
  2. Husband/Marriage
  3. Your Family (kids and home)
  4. Church/ministry/work

You could add many more things to this list, but I kept it basic for a reason. I just wanted to point out to you, that church and God are NOT on the same level. Yes, the Lord should always be your number one priority. But cleaning the bathrooms in church or going to another Bible Study group is not the same as having God first. That all falls in the category of ‘church’.

You can serve God in your home, by making disciples at home, by taking good care of what He has given you and by doing everything as unto the Lord. So don’t mistake serving in church with serving God.

I hope this post and/or video blessed you, because I am sure this is something a lot of women struggle with.
