I don’t know about you, but I am here for all the lifestyle tips that will make life easier as a mama. Here’s 5 things that have helped me tremendously over the last few years.
1. Wake up before the kids
Seriously, this has been such a game changer! Waking up before the kids, means you can have a little me-time before the day starts. It doesn’t even have to be long. 10 minutes of just being on your own and reading your Bible or a book can make a world of a difference!
For me, it means I wake up every day between 5.00am and 5.30am. We started doing this about a year ago and I love it (usually..). It means I can read my bible in quiet, plan out my day and do a little bit of work before the kids wake up. I also try to have breakfast and sometimes even get dressed before I hear the kids (but this is very rare). When they wake up around 7.00am I can focus completely on them!
2. Have ‘phoneless’ days
Something we have implemented this year and it has been amazing! It’s so easy to get distracted by your phone and lose focus of what you were doing. You are playing with the kids and before you know it you are reading Instagram messages thanks to a notification that popped up. (extra tip: Turn those notifications off!)
We actually started doing this one step at a time. We started with Sunday Mornings off our phones. And this felt so good that we decided to turn it into the entire day. But if an entire day sounds too hard, start with an hour, a morning or whatever feels right. No need to rush it!
3. Go low-tox
Over the years, the products you can find in the stores have become very toxic to our bodies. The ingredients are actually quite shocking once you learn more about it! And not to mention all it does to your body. It can mess up your hormones (and we all know that doesn’t really help!), make you feel tired or even make you sick.
Going low-tox means you eliminate toxic chemicals from your home. This doesn’t have to be overnight, but every toxic chemical that leaves your home is amazing for your health! So maybe you start swapping your entire cleaning supplies for natural alternatives. But you can also go with one product at a time; for example your foundation or scented candles.
Start small. Just make sure you start! It has made a big difference on our well-being and moods.
Need help with this? Start small. Go to this website and start by ordering a deodorant, a handsoap, dish soap (or all three) and go from there. And bonus; you actually get $10 off your first order!
4. Less sugar
Let’s be honest, it’s something we are constantly trying to work on in this family. Sugary things are just so dang delicious, haha. But eating less of it makes me feel better instantly! And I know how much better it is for your body in the long run.
So this is definitely one of my goals for the new year; eat less sugar and more veggies. We don’t drink soda or juices, so that is not the problem for us. It’s more the cakes and cookies and candy. But please tell me, it’s not just me who can’t imagine a life without chocolate cake?!
5. Use a block schedule
Okay, I saved the best for last. Using a block schedule has CHANGED MY LIFE. And I mean that with every fibre of my being. Honestly, it’s so easy but so good! I will soon explain a lot more in detail what a block schedule is. But for now, let me try to keep it short.
A block schedule means you basically divide your day into 6 blocks of about 2-3 hours. You schedule a bunch of things in a block and once the timer goes off and your next block starts, you leave any unfinished tasks for now and focus on your new block. This makes room for focussing on a few different things instead of one. So instead of spending the entire day on cleaning the house and ‘forgetting’ to work on a project, playing with the kids or baking that sourdough you wanted to make, you stop cleaning when the timer goes off and move on to the next block.
I hope these tips will help you just as much as it helped me and my family. We have experienced such a difference since we did these 5 things. Let me know below, which one you already follow or which one you will try to implement!
